I’m not much of a fan when it comes to upnose shots. So excuse me for being a little less enthusiastic about Leona Lewis’s first official promo photo. This very photo also serves as the cover for Leona’s new single ‘Happy’ which will see its worldwide premiere tomorrow night on Radio 1. The track is written & produced by Ryan Tedder (‘Bleeding Love’) with Leona on co-writing duties. The song, which is said to be another powerballad, has been getting rave reviews. However, Popjustice is acting like the song will take us to the high heavens. Isn’t this the very same source that cited Alexandra Burke’s new single ‘Bad Boys’ as pure “brilliance”? I recall Jordin Sparks‘ ‘Battlefield’ also recieving the happy-drug treatment as well. I don’t know about you lot but to me, I think someone is getting paid some serious cheddar to overhype these songs, and then, when they fail to deliver, it’s like a kick in the stomach.
Nevertheless, tomorrow can’t come quick enough for me. I’m not expecting another ‘Bleeding Love’ but I am expecting something good at least. The track will serve as the lead single taken from Leona’s sophomore album ‘Echo’ (due in stores on Nov 17th). And if you can’t get enough of Leona, she is featured in the new Rollingstone. They have an article which sheds some light on the new album such as a couple of confirmed tracks that will make the cut (‘I Got You’, ‘Brave’ and ‘Can’t Fight It’). Interestingly enough, the article cites the Ne-yo-collaborated ‘Can’t Fight It’ as having “funky Beyonce-style vocal riffs”. Leona refers to it as an “uptempo” joint and says that as she’s listened to uptempo records all her life, she wanted to feature them on her new album. UPDATE: Can’t Fight It was demo-ed by Ne-yo.
