Janelle Monáe covers Charlie Chaplin’s “Smile” for Billboard’s Mashup Monday. Said to be one of Michael Jackson’s favorite songs, the tender ballad was famously covered by the King of Pop for his HIStory album and later performed by his brother Jermaine at his memorial last year.
“Emotionally, I’ve been connected to this song for quite some time,” said the Bad Boy singer. “It’s one of those classic standards, it’s been sung by a lot of the greats, Stevie Wonder to Nat King Cole to Judy Garland to Frank Sinatra.”
