One of our favorite men about town, DJ/producer/ fellah-who-inspires-envy Mark Ronson is an old school sneaker head. Last year at the invitation of Gucci’s creative director Frida Giannnini, Ronson attended a men’s show in Milan.
“I loved the clothes,” Ronson recalls. “I loved the aesthetic, it’s quite like the streamline of mod, the cut, but all the prints were a bit more bright and it kind of had this 80s reinvented new wave to it. After the show we went to the headquarters, like the coolest sort of weird Bond villain lair you can imagine. She told me this idea to do a
collaboration, something that mixed in music which is an important part for me, since I’m not a clothing designer. like it has to have some component of music or it doesn’t make sense, so for the next few months we kicked around ideas.”
The result of their collaboration is a line of shoes co-designed by the pair. You can purchase the fruit of their intense labors at the Gucci Icon-Temporary Store, a traveling pop-up that has just touched down in NYC. Customers get a fr
ee 12” produced by Mark Ronson, too!
As a footnote, the VMAN editor used to hear Mr. Ronson DJ the hip-hop room at raves in the early 90s under the moniker Spark Ronson.
Read more about Mark Ronson and his footwear in the upcoming VMAN out in November.
